Kari Magee speaks with Dr. Michael Jordan, Dr. Sarah Nikiforow, and Dr. Joseph Rocco about CXCL9, a biomarker reshaping HLH diagnosis and care.
In this episode of Investigating HLH, Kari Magee speaks with Dr Michael Jordan, Dr Sarah Nikiforow, and Dr Joseph Rocco about the story of CXCL9—where it started, how our understanding of it has evolved, and how it can help with the diagnosis and treatment of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Dr Michael Jordan is a physician scientist and investigator at Cincinnati Children's Hospital who has studied HLH and interferon gamma biology for a number of years. Dr Sarah Nikiforow is a hematologist oncologist at Dana-Farber in Boston who treats HLH and other inflammatory syndromes in adults, sometimes taking them through hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Dr Joseph Rocco is a clinical investigator at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where he runs an HLH program focused on clinical translational science. Hear from these 3 experts on the biology that makes CXCL9 a reliable readout of interferon gamma activity, its use as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in children and adults, how it is interpreted alongside ferritin, soluble IL-2 receptor, and IL-18, and what they hope the future of biomarker testing will look like.
